The European Union has made a commitment to reduce CO2 emissions with respect to the quota set in 1990, in keeping with the Kyoto protocol. Since the building sector is responsible for 35% of greenhouse gases and 40% of energy consumption in the EC, precise regulations have been issued for the field of construction. To respond to these stimuli, Ceramiche Refin has developed a series of green initiatives that represent the excellence of industrial policy in the area of environmental sustainability. One recent goal was achieved with the innovative Ekosan.24 technology, shifting from the concept of the tile as a passive surface with a mere protective function to that of the active surface that contributes to human wellbeing while protecting the environment. Furthermore, all Refin products have always set a series of records for environmental quality: they all comply with the directives of the prestigious European Ecolabel, and many of them are LEED compatible as well.
