The debut event was about “disobedience” on 6 May in the Meritalia showroom, for the cycle of encounters Design Meets Food – Milan Meets the World organized by INTERNI as part of the initiative Expo City Events.

The theme was addressed by the two protagonists of the evening, Giulio Iacchetti and Davide Oldani, respectively designer and chef, who talked about how disobeying, or going beyond pre-set rules and schemes (practiced only after first having learned about obedience), can become a true creative attitude.

While for Iacchetti the reflection (and exhibition) on “disobedient objects” marked a fundamental passage of a path of research oriented towards design rather than formal results, for Oldani the “detour” from haute cuisine was the natural consequence of the choice to focus on a more popular cuisine concept, namely one liked to the seasonal foods of the Lombardy territory.

“When I started working,” the chef explained, “there were very rigid rules. I mastered them and made them mine, adding my own personal interpretation. My cuisine is pop because it is based on the principle of affordability and comes from a shared, constructed project.”

An approach that Giulio Iacchetti, a champion of democratic design, agrees with and develops from his own viewpoint, thinking of objects for participation, lightness and “disobedience” in everyday life.
