For the first time in fifty years of its history, the 4500 employees of Jaguar Land Rover at Halewood will work round the clock to satisfy the great demand for the Range Rover Evoque. Since its debut in July 2011, the Range Rover Evoque has been an outstanding success all over the world, with about 88,000 units sold in over 170 countries. In March this year Jaguar Land Rover announced that the Halewood plant would be working round the clock, taking on 1000 new employees. They will work on production of the Range Rover Evoque and on the upgrade of the Land Rover Freelander 2, in three shifts, including the new night shift. Richard Else, Halewood Operations Director, says: “Our new employees have worked hard during the evaluation and training programs. Many of them, on an experimental basis, have also done night shifts, to be certain we begin things properly. I am happy to welcome our new colleagues aboard, who will help us to satisfy the demand for the Range Rover Evoque and the Land Rover Freelander 2. Working in three shifts will enable us to cut down delivery times”. Des Thurlby, HR Director of JLR, adds: “With 4500 employees, the JLR Halewood plant has tripled its work force in just three years – making it the largest in the last twenty years. Along with the creation of new jobs, our worldwide success continues to have a positive economic impact in the Northwest, and along the whole supply chain in the UK”. All the new production staffers of JLR will receive another year of training to bring them to an intermediate level of apprenticeship (NVQ – National Vocational Qualification – Level 2). “JLR is committed to investment in expertise and training for its work force, and many of the 1500 persons hired for the launch of the Range Rover Evoque in 2011 have already reached the Intermediate level,” says Des Thurlby. “We have received over 30,000 applications for the 1000 new positions, and luckily we were able to select people at a high level for our new jobs”. The Range Rover Evoque has won kudos from the critics, taking over 120 prizes around the world. The Range Rover Evoque continues to stand out for its concept car look, its dynamic driving performance, its noteworthy off-road capacities and excellent price-quality ratio.
