19-23 September -
In iconic Trafalgar Square, in the center of London, a large enigmatic black volume has appeared. The mysterious installation has been made by order of the Be Open Foundation and the Festival, celebrating its tenth year of operation this year. Designed by Arup, an international leader in the field of acoustic engineering, the Sound Portal aims at changing the way people perceive urban spaces, offering an experience based only on sounds for its visitors. Every day for five days, starting on 19 September, the structure made with a sophisticated black rubberized finish will host five composers and sound designers invited to create a unique and original soundscape, absolutely isolated from the surrounding urban chaos, featuring a series of dedicated technologies to provide a purely acoustic experience for visitors, based on an invisible kind of design: that of sound. The installation is thus transformed into a mobile laboratory to explore the boundaries of sound technology and to demonstrate the versatility of design. The founder of Be Open, the Russian entrepreneur and philanthropist Elena Baturina, explains the initiative: “The designers of the installation and the artists who will work there represent the vanguard in this field, the future of the evolution of sound. The voyage in the Sound Portal is a must for anyone who wants to take the opportunity to listen to tomorrow”. The artists on the schedule are Ivan Pavlov, a Russian artist; Nathaniel Robin Mann, a performer and composer; Jo Thomas, composer; Jana Winderen, a Norwegian artist; Tom Jenkinson, a pioneer of Radical Drum & Bass. BE OPEN Sound Portal at Trafalgar Square 19-23 September 8.30 – 22.00 During the five days of the event, the installation will host works by five sound artists, ranging from the deepest natural sounds, like the breaking of glaciers, to the most contemporary pieces of electronic music: • Wednesday 19 September: Ivan Pavlov (COH)

19-23 September - [gallery ids="7359,7360,7361,7362,7363,7364,7365"]In iconic Trafalgar Square, in the center of London, a large enigmatic black volume has appeared.

• Friday 21 September: Jo Thomas

19-23 September - [gallery ids="7359,7360,7361,7362,7363,7364,7365"]In iconic Trafalgar Square, in the center of London, a large enigmatic black volume has appeared.

19-23 September - [gallery ids="7359,7360,7361,7362,7363,7364,7365"]In iconic Trafalgar Square, in the center of London, a large enigmatic black volume has appeared.
