Another significant milestone of international scientific value for Active Surfaces developed by Iris Ceramica Group. The data obtained from a research conducted with the University of Milan highlight its antiviral properties against Covid-19

Antiviral properties against Covid-19 for Active Surfaces performing ceramic surfaces developed by Iris Ceramica Group. The data obtained from authoritative scientific research attest to its ability to eliminate the SARS-CoV-2 – responsible for Covid-19 – at 94% after only 4 hours of exposure to low intensity UV light, such as natural and of traditional light bulbs.

Thanks to the constant research and experimentation that characterizes it, the Modena ceramic group thus achieves another important milestone of international scientific value.

Active Surfaces, the ceramic surfaces with high technical performance and refined aesthetics developed and patented by Iris Ceramica Group, have in fact been the subject of an important study by the Department of Biomedical, Surgical and Dental Sciences and the Department of Biomedical Sciences for Health of the University of Milan to verify its antiviral properties against the Coronavirus SARS-CoV-2.

The research was carried out by the Iris Ceramica Group's Active Research and Development Department in collaboration with the authoritative technical-scientific committee of the two departments of the University of Milan.

The data obtained highlighted extraordinary results relating to the ability of Active Surfaces to eliminate SARS-CoV-2 at 94% after only 4 hours of exposure to low intensity UV light.

This significant result is added to the ISO certifications (ISO 21702 - ISO 18061) already obtained from the material: those relating to the four viral strains (Pandemic Influences H1N1 and H3N2, Enterovirus 71 and Poliovirus) and others in the antibacterial field, for example against antibiotic-resistant bacteria (ISO 27447 - ISO 22196).

All certificates relating to Active Surfaces are available online on the active-ceramic.it website.

Never before has the scientific value been fundamental for the protection of the health of people who have been facing the health emergency due to Covid-19 for over a year. The sanitation and sanitation of environments and surfaces have become essential practices not only in public spaces, but also in domestic and work environments.

The results obtained by Active Surfaces are proof of the constant and relevant research work carried out by Iris Ceramica Group, supported by detailed scientific documentation.

Already in 2009, the Group developed cutting-edge technology capable of making ceramics eco-active. Specifically, the Active Surfaces, thanks to a photocatalysis process with titanium dioxide added with silver – a technology covered by two European patents –, are 'activated' by eliminating the presence of pollutants, microbial agents (viruses, bacteria, fungi and molds) in addition to bad smells. They are also self-cleaning.

Active Surfaces concretely translates a farsighted vision that finds its roots in the pioneering character of the company that has been experimenting with new materials and applications for over 60 years, opening up new markets for ceramics.

Iris Ceramica Group thus becomes the spokesperson for a culture that places ceramics at the center as one of the noblest materials existing in nature, which has accompanied man since the discovery of fire.

Active Surfaces represents the evolution of matter, in which art, creativity and science coexist in perfect harmony, giving life to surfaces that are not only characterized by innovation and refined aesthetics, but also contain a profound value, that of being materials at the service of man in full respect of the environment.
