Jaime Hayon has created a playful interactive installation adorned by 15 million Swarovski crystals for the Kristallwelten in Austria

A surprising new installation can now be seen, framed by the mountains, in the ‘enchanted’ Swarovski Kristallwelten at Wattens, Austria.

Jaime Hayon has created an original black and white carousel in contrast with the flourishing vegetation of the garden inside the Worlds of Swarovski Crystal. The soft contemporary lines and playful graphics of the Spanish designer and artist reinvent the traditional carousel while conserving its nostalgic charm.

The monochrome design glows with 15 million Swarovski crystals on 12 ceiling panels and 16 wall panels, lit by warm lights for a dreamy aura.

In his project drawings Hayon has been inspired by folklore and fables to create fantastic characters that become unexpected seats. Outlandish faces decorate the roof and the enclosure, expressing the surprise and joy have always gone together with the sight of a carousel.

With a height of 6.5 meters and a length of 12.5, the carousel – which took six months to make – can welcome 28 riders of all ages.
