Carl Hansen&Son continues its tradition in 2020, celebrating the birthday of the designer Hans J. Wegner with a limited edition of his iconic Wishbone Chair. Originally created in 1949 and produced in 1950, the Wishbone Chair was the first of five chairs Wegner designed for Carl Hansen & Son: produced in Denmark, in the plant on the island of Funen, its 14 parts are still assembled by hand today, while its seat in paper cord is woven by hand from 120 meters of material.
This year the Wishbone Chair takes on a Navy Blue he, the trend color for 2020, and the model has been enhanced with a glossy finish. The new color of the CH24 was selected in collaboration with the designer Ilse Crawford and her team at Studioilse.
The choice of this deep, almost “lunatic” navy blue shade, like the glossy finish, takes its cue from Wegner’s passion for oriental design and art: the traditional blue color of Chinese pottery, with its lacquered and glossy finish. The pairing of this lively, forceful color with the natural hue of the seat in woven paper cord creates an appealing, dynamic contrast.
The chair will be available only for the month of April 2020 starting on the second day, Hans J. Wegner’s birthday: each piece will have a small brass plate, engraved with the signature and date of birth of Hans J. Wegner, placed discreetly inside the frame of the chair. Each chair also comes with a certificate of authenticity.
