Abet Laminati pays homage to the brothers Alessandro and Francesco Mendini in an exhibition at the Milan Triennale

Triennale di Milano,

from 12 April to 6 May 2018

The exhibition is the result of Abet Laminati’s desire to pay homage to the brothers Alessandro and Francesco Mendini, who have worked actively with the company for nearly 50 years.

Atelier Mendini. Le Architetture, curated by Aldo Colonetti, narrates the design career and eclectic nature of Atelier Mendini with a special focus on architecture.

In the larger projects, Abet laminates have played a crucial role in the creation of the colorful architecture of the Mendini brothers.

For the first time, the exhibition brings together all the public and private works of architecture of the Atelier, through 26 wooden models, 13 drawings, photographs and videos.

The accent on color – a fundamental factor in all the Atelier’s projects – allows architecture to soften its edges, bringing dynamism to facades and introducing an element of discontinuity in various contexts.

The models in wood and methacrylate are striking for their chromatic impact and the painterly aspect that characterize the buildings made with Abet laminates, such as the Incheon Triennale in Korea, and the Bruno Bianchi Swim Center in Trieste, whose external facade features the Proust pattern.

Atelier Mendini. Le Architetture is accompanied by a catalogue published by Electa, with critical writings by Aldo Colonetti, Peter Weiß, Alessandro & Francesco Mendini, and contributions by the president of Abet Laminati Bruno Mazzola and Stefano Boeri, president of the Milan Triennale.
