The traveling exhibition, hosted on its first stop at the 15th-century Biblioteca di Santa Maria Incoronata, curated by Anty Pansera with the collaboration of Mariateresa Chirico, and promoted by Fragilewith the support of Cassina, presents rare objects – never exhibited before – made in the early 1970s by the team known as Bracciodiferro, from an idea of Gaetano Pesce that then involved Alessandro Mendini. The pieces were made by the Cassina research and development center and Aldo Cichero, by order of Cesare Cassina. The show also includes drawings and original documents by Pesce and Mendini, and correspondence. One characteristic of the Bracciodiferro was the development not just of products, but also of their communication modes: from graphics to catalogues to photographs, using the most apt languages of the time. The theme – a forerunner of today’s trends – is that of Art Design, namely one-offs or limited editions, away from the normal channels of serial production, addressing a world of collectors. An experience that made it possible to explore the most innovative aspects of design culture and to test the market by means of multiples in numbered editions.
