The project started with CC-Tapis, the Italian company that for 16 years has made crafted carpets in Nepal and has always had a sustainable and responsible approach to ecological and social issues, reinforcing its ties to this country thanks to the non-profit association CC-For Education.
The CC-Tapis team recently visited Kathmandu to directly monitor the school enrollment of the first two classes of kids, and they were there at the time of the catastrophic earthquake on 25 April. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs had to arrange for their return to Italy.
At this point, together with CC-Tapis, other players of the Milan design scene got involved: Brera Design District, Dilmos, Spazio Pontaccio, Spotti and Understate immediately responded to the idea of creating a benefit event by auctioning pieces from their collections and sending the proceeds to CC-For Education Onlus.
Support also came from Patricia Urquiola, who created the logo and is taking part in this first initiative to bring immediate aid, and to raise public awareness so as not to diminish media coverage, encouraging long-term aid as well.
On 28 May, about one month after the quake, in the showroom on Via San Simpliciano, it will be possible to contribute to the purchase of antiseismic housing (1500 euro for each unit, with a 50 year guarantee), as well as food, first aid kits and materials, in donations of 25 euro per refuge. Donors can offer one year of school to Nepali children, from kindergarten to high school (270 euro for one year of kindergarten, 360 for elementary school, 480 euro for middle school, 600 euro for high school).
