Event Pavilion del T Fondaco dei Tedeschi, Venezia
Dal 6 aprile al 25 novembre 2018
An intriguing project that addresses the themes of passing times, bonds between places and people, and the value of memory.
In Greetings from Venice the artist Elisabetta Di Maggio rethinks the pattern of Byzantine mosaics of the floor of the Basilica of San Marco and other important Venetian buildings, whose elegant and sinuous shapes suggest the idea of a map that connects instants of life, steps, encounters, silences.
She dematerializes the solid presence of mosaic tiles by using ephemeral segments that convey the concept of time: 100,000 postage stamps, all used and hailing from all over the world, which the artist has subdivided by origin and color, all with the help of the students of the Liceo Marco Polo of Venice.
