From 5 to 20 September 2015, Bergamo goes green for the new edition of “I Maestri del Paesaggio – International Meeting of the Landscape and Garden,” the event that for five years now has brought to Italy the most important landscape designers in the world, for sixteen days entirely devoted to nature and beauty.
The fulcrum of the even is Piazza Vecchia, set up as a large open-air garden, joined this year by Piazza Mascheroni, also in Bergamo Alta. The Green Plazas were presented at Domus Bergamo Wine, the space for the events of FuoriExpo2015 in the very central Piazza Dante in Bergamo Bassa, with the mayor Giorgio Gori, the president of Arketipos Maurizio Vegini, the designer Lucia Nusiner and representatives of the many local institutions involved in the event.
The main theme of the 2015 edition is Feeding Landscape – Agriculture makes landscape, reflecting the inseparable link between man and territory, recovery of a rural past rich in charm and tradition, from the earth to the table.
A reflection on greenery that makes Bergamo an observatory and laboratory of landscape culture, enlivening the city with the International Meeting at the Teatro Sociale and the installations, this year in two public squares: the historic Piazza Vecchia will be transformed by the British designer Andy Sturgeon, in collaboration with Lucia Nusiner and Maurizio Quargnale, while Piazza Mascheroni will be part of the event for the first time, thanks to the concept by students from the Summer School in 2014.
Amidst natural woods, fruit trees and bales of hay, Piazza Vecchia becomes a unique rural setting, while at Piazza Mascheroni green dunes, large elms and perennial grasses narrate pre-agricultural history and the nomadism of gatherers.
