Spazio Celso, Basilica di San Celso,
Corso Italia, 39, Milan
17 May – 6 June 2018
Paolo Mezzanotte. Oltre l’architetto. Stampe, disegni e graffiti is the first exhibition to be held after the restoration of the Basilica, at Spazio San Celso, a new facility for art and culture in Milan.
The show is a tribute to the architect Paolo Mezzanotte (Milan 1878 – Romanò di Inverigo, Como 1969), a symbol of Milan, known for having designed the Palazzo della Borsa – which is in fact called Palazzo Mezzanotte. It reveals a less well-known aspect of Mezzanotte’s work: the graphic design that reflects the close bond between Mezzanotte and the city of Milan.
Paolo Mezzanotte was not only a highly acclaimed architect, but also a refined painter, a skilled engraver, a passionate scholar of art history.
The exhibition follows an itinerary through the main areas of Milan, traced by Mezzanotte in the book created in 1948 with Giacomo Bascapè, Milano nell’arte e nella storia.
