The Triennale Design Museum, for the centennial of the birth of Piero Fornasetti, presents the first major exhibition in Italy on his work, curated by Barnaba Fornasetti. A painter, printer, designer, collector, stylist, refined artisan, decorator, gallerist and creator of exhibitions, Fornasetti was an extremely complex personality. He designed and made about 13,000 different objects and decorations: a universe composed in equal measure of rigorous design, art and crafts, and of unbridled imagination, surreal invention and poetry. The exhibition itinerary features sections, ranging from the early paintings close to the Novecento movement to the printing of artists’ books, from the close collaboration with Gio Ponti in the 1950s and 1960s to the more difficult years in the 1970s and until 1988, the year of his death. The show includes over 700 pieces, mostly from the archive organized by Barnaba Fornasetti, who still continues the activity begun by his father today. www.triennale.org.
