The first airport for drones in the world will be built in Ruanda. The African country is the base for a pilot project for the creation of three Droneports, slated for completion by 2020, after which the project will expand into the Republic of the Congo.
The project is by Norman Foster, in collaboration with Afrotech and École Polytechnique Fédérale of Lausanne.
When completed, it will make it possible to connect about half the territory of Ruanda for the supply of urgent medicines to areas that would otherwise be hard to reach.
The Droneport is designed as a kit for assembly, made with imported load-bearing structures and bricks, and local raw materials (stone and clay).
