The area for the training of health care professionals at the campus of Health Sciences of the University of Barcelona (UB) at Bellvitge permits studying and research in maximum comfort, thanks to the special sunscreen facade created by the architecture studio Pinearq. The sunscreen grille in DuPont™ Corian® protects the interiors from the Mediterranean sunlight, while allowing the proper amount of light to enter.
For the Pinearq architecture studio, helmed by Albert de Pineda, the buildings for lectures halls and laboratories of the campus of Health Sciences of the University of Barcelona (UB) at Bellvitge (Hospitalet de Llobregat) represent the first example of the use of DuPont™ Corian® as a facade material.
The techno-surface has been installed on various facades with extraordinary results, above all for those facing south, which get the greatest quantity of sunlight. For this type of facade DuPont™ Corian® offers protection against the intense Mediterranean sunshine, while the white color provides a high level of luminosity during the winter.
Albert de Pineda emphasizes, besides these qualities, “the possibility of making sunscreen grilles in DuPont™ Corian® with custom designs and patterns,” as well as rapid assembly. The prefabricated metal strips of the exterior can be positioned vertically and horizontally, based on the requirements of the image and the design of each facade. Vertical installation offers protection for facades exposed to the west and to heat. Horizontal positioning brings protection to facades exposed to view from the outside.
