Fondazione Giorgio Cini presents a new space for music in Venice: Lo Squero dell’Isola di San Giorgio Maggiore. A former workshop for the repair of boats, the structure has been transformed into a modern auditorium, thanks to the intervention of the architects CCattaruzza e Millosevich, and with the contribution of the Interregional Superintendency for Public Works of the Veneto, Trentino Alto Adige, Friuli Venezia Giulia and Fondazione Virginio Bruni Tedeschi.
Thanks to its exceptional acoustics and a fine location overlooking the lagoon, Lo Squero di San Giorgio Maggiore is a unique space that puts music and image in tune. In front of the audience and behind the musicians, glass partitions, like natural wings, open onto an extraordinary view of the lagoon, offering the viewer a chance to enjoy the unique experience of a concert “at water’s edge.”
The 200-seat concert hall will open on 23 April with the first of six concerts that present the complete String Quartets by Ludwig van Beethoven, an event organized in collaboration with the Quartetto di Venezia and the association Asolo Music.
