The architect Zaha Hadid, the first woman to win the Pritzker Prize, in 2004, died of a heart attack at a hospital in Miami where she was being treated for pneumonia. Born in Iraq, she was 65 years old.
Many of her famous works were built in Italy, including: the building of the Maxxi museum in Rome, one of the three skyscrapers of the new Citylife area in Milan, the maritime station at the port of Salerno, and the Messner Mountain Museum at Plan de Corones.
She designed works all over the world: among the most famous, the Serpentine Sackler Gallery in London, the Riverside Museum in Glasgow, and the Opera of Guangzhou in China.
