Among the most unique features of Expo Milano 2015, the Clusters1/East on BioMediterranean – Islands, Sea and Food – Arid Zones – Cereals and Tubers represent the first project assigned to Rubner for the Universal Exposition.

These are exhibit spaces that gather over 30 foreign countries, as well as Sicily, in the Bio-Mediterranean area, for a total of 43 buildings inside 4 theme areas in which a single theme is interpreted by a single architectural project.

The protagonist of the work is wood, an ecological, natural material, to interpret the thematic area thanks to its flexibility and adaptability to any type of construction, and its particularly rapid implementation.

The wooden structures of the Clusters were assembled in just two months guaranteeing the delivery of the official keys of the Bio-Mediterranean Cluster – to the delegations of Montenegro and Malta – already back in February.

Each space has been built in a personalized way featuring distinctive traits of the zones of the world represented, as well as a common area with multiple functions.

In the development of the projects for Expo Milano 2015, the expertise of Rubner Objektbau was joined by that of Rubner Holzbau, another company from the Group specializing in large works made with wood.

The architectural structure was designed by Politecnico di Milano and the Cluster Project Working Groups, while the definitive design was done by Sering.
