A single-family house in the midst of family vineyards, by Rubner Haus
At Ala, a small town at the end of Val di Ronchi in Val Lagarina, a renovated and expanded house has been completed in just 4 months thanks to the work of Rubner Haus, based on a project by Giorgio Losi of Plan Architettura. The owners are a family that have chosen to live in the midst of their estate with vineyards.
The main challenge was the staircase that connects the various levels: the building, dating back to the 1960s, has a classic villa structure with a mezzanine level. The main object was to create a feature with an eye on modern architecture, getting away from conventional canons. The choice thus went to an innovative sinuous, elliptical form, inserted in a stairwell made with traditional masonry.
The building has a structural framework that combines classic stylistic features with innovative construction systems, maintaining the highest quality standards, also in the area of balanced energy consumption. This construction technique has been used for centuries, and it permits low energy consumption and high levels of thermal insulation. The house, in class A for energy, provides wellbeing along with considerable savings, while also eliminating pollution.
Rubner wood is 100% natural and ecosustainable, obtained from Alpine zones with controlled forestry practices, extending for 150 km around the sawmill of the Austrian group. For over 50 years Rubner Haus has built wooden houses in which tradition and modern technologies join forces in the science of construction with wood.
