Observing the horizontal planks in solid tulipwood of different widths installed around the stage of the Performance Theatre of the Freshwater Senior Campus, one might correctly assume that this is not a standard creation by a manufacturer of acoustic panels. The installation has in fact been created by the young furniture designer Ben Percy from 3 cubic meters of American tulipwood with the support of AHEC, the American Hardwood Export Council.

Percy was looking for a wood that would provide a variety of colors and tones, to create an interesting backdrop in a theater with 300 seats. The flashes of violet and black in certain sections of the wall, and the gray tones of the others, lead to extraordinary results. The tulipwood has been finished with a transparent oil to bring out the natural colors.
