The Spanish city is a candidate to be World Design Capital in 2022
The Valencia Marina hosted the launch of the candidacy of Valencia as World Design Capital 2022. The presentation featured the mayor of Valencia Joan Ribó, the president of the organizing committee Marisa Gallén, and the project strategy coordinators Xavi Calvo and Pau Rausell.
The status of World Design Capital is assigned every two years to a city in which design is a driving force for economic, social and cultural growth.
Design is a vehicle of creativity, innovation and culture offering tangible benefits for industry, the economy and the society. According to a study conducted by the Valencia Institute of Economic Research (IVIE), companies that provide design services to other firms in the area generate almost 100 million euros of added value and over 1200 jobs.
The project Valencia World Design Capital 2022 brings together designers, local authorities and excellent companies of the Valencia Community, to demonstrate to the World Design Organization (WDO) that Valencia in the 21st century is the result of over one century of design: urban planning, architecture, art, production, interior and graphic design make Valencia a city with an important international role.
The WDO selection committee will announce the list of nominated cities in June 2019, and the winning city for World Design Capital 2022 in October 2019.
