In the wake of great names such as Roederer, Philippe de Rothschild and Antinori, Nonino was awarded the Spirit Entrepreneur of the Year prize by the Meininger Verlag publishing house for “repeatedly providing breakthrough innovations in the grappa market and consolidating its position as a pioneer of quality”. It is the first time that this award is assigned to Grappa.
The Nonino family has been dealing with the Art of Distillation since 1897 and this year it celebrates 120 years of distillation, a passion handed down ‘from father to daugther’. In 1973 the Nonino created the first single varietal grappa, Monovitigno® Nonino, a revolutionary system to produce and present this grappa in Italy and globally.
In 1975 they established the Premio Nonino Risit d’Aur , whose objective was to save ancient local grapes from Friuli, threatened by extinction, and to receive Community authorization to replant Schioppettino, Pignolo and Ribolla Gialla grapes in order to preserve land biodiversity. In 1984 they distilled full grapes and created ÙE® l’Acquavite d’Uva (Grape Aquavit). In 2003 they received from the President of the Italian Republic the prestigious Premio Leonardo Qualità Italia (Leonardo Italian Quality Award) for their “Quality, Research and Innovation” and were recognized as the “true Ambassadors of Italian grappa in the world”.
ÙE® Nonino grapes are 100% craft distilled, from fresh raw materials, in their batch steam stills, in Ronchi di Percoto. Nonino Reserves naturally age in small casks sealed and permanently monitored by the Customs and Monopolies Agency, and are bottled without colouring agents. Nonino continue developing grappa, a star in fantastic cocktails and drinks, paving a new road for this Italian distilled product.
