Open House Roma returns as a free, public international event that opens the doors of historic buildings, contemporary architecture and places of excellence in the city. The initiative is not to be missed, with visits to residences, palaces, institutions, archaeological sites and creative studios not usually open to the public.
The theme of the 2019 edition of Open House Roma was Utilitas, an aspect linking the design of spaces to their use, to constantly changing needs and transformations of the context.
This year’s edition also featured the publishing project Rooms, with in-depth research on some of the places around the city included in the program for 2019. With the collaboration of Cieloterradesign, Rooms offers a different vantage point on the city, its places and its stories.
The program of 180 sites, 50 events and 15 tours, welcoming over 50,000 visitors last year, included the unfinished Città dello Sport at Tor Vergata, the Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana now used as the headquarters of the Fendi fashion house, and contemporary grafts in the consolidated city like the Biblioteca Hertziana and the Biblioteca Lateranense, as well as the contemporary architecture of the Città del Sole by Labics.
