Fondazione Sozzani presents the photography project People of Tamba by Giovanni Hänninen and the series of short documentary videos Senegal/Sicily created by Alberto Amoretti and Giovanni Hänninen, for the first time in Milan.
The two projects share the aim of approaching different aspects of illegal migration in African and the western world.
With People of Tamba Giovanni Hänninen creates a typological catalogue of the society of Tambacounda, the innermost rural region of Senegal, the place of origin of most of the migrants who leave the country to travel towards Europe. The project began in 2017 and consists of 200 images, some of which are presented in Milan in large format (3 x 2 meters).
Senegal/Sicily is a series of short documentary videos on the theme of migration from Senegal to Sicilia, based on the collaboration of Alberto Amoretti and Giovanni Hänninen with The Josef and Anni Albers Foundation and the NGO Le Korsa. The project has a dual objective: to create awareness in Europe and America of the thoughts, dreams and experiences of migrants and of their families that have remained in Senegal, and at the same time to offer the young people of the Tambacounda region an honest account of the risks of the journey, and of what happens in Europe to the people who manage to get there.
