La Ceramica e il Progetto is a competition with a focus on the best architectural works made with Italian ceramic tiles in Italy or elsewhere, completed from January 2016 to January 2019.
Selecting from 115 projects, the jury assigned various prizes based on criteria of creativity, functionality and aesthetic taste, considering the design, the use of ceramic surfaces, the quality of the installation and the characteristics of environmental sustainability.
For the Residential category, Cotto d’Este took first prize thanks to the project UpTown in Milan, Italy’s first smart district. With a new habitat concept, UpTown Milano represents the first Italian zero-impact development, with geothermal district heating, with a central accent on quality of life and services.
UpTown already has an initial group of apartments, for which the brand has supplied over 15,000 m2 of surfaces, including the ultrathin large ceramic slabs from the Kerlite Cluny collection – used to clad the vertical surfaces of the building – and the porcelain stoneware of the series Yosemite from Blustyle by Cotto d’Este, selected for the balconies and terraces.
Alongside the traditional prizes in three categories - Residential, Commercial and Institutional - Cotto d’Este also gained an honorable mention for the project Edificio C in Aversa (CE), for the use of ceramic material inside an existing framework, establishing an indoor-outdoor dialogue in total harmony with the image of the city.
