For the 130th anniversary of the birth of Ercole Barovier, the Murano-based company takes part in Venice Glass Week with a limited edition in his honor

Barovier&Toso takes part in the third edition of Venice Glass Week, until 15 September. The international festival on the art of glass is held in Venice, Murano and Mestre, reflecting the lively local activity in the arts, culture and production.

For the special occasion of the 130th anniversary of the birth of Ercole Barovier, the Murano-based company has decided to create a commemorative limited edition. Barovier&Toso has produced an exclusive series composed of three vases in different tones of green, in an edition of 16 pieces for each design.

In the 1930s Ercole Barovier, president and artistic director of the company, applied his creative talent to develop models with new colors and decorative effects. His flair gave rise to extremely evocative textures, with specks of gold and silver, air bubbles and inclusions of various materials to achieve unusual effects.

One of his most interesting techniques at the time was crepuscolo, obtained by inserting iron wool between two layers of hot glass. Thirty years later, he perfected and enhanced this technique, adding an external layer of 24K gold leaf, and thus creating crepuscolo aurato.

Precisely this technique has been chosen by the company to pay homage to Ercole. Barovier&Toso has met the challenge of reviving this original procedure, in a new series of sinuous vases with elegant hues, unique creations that will be presented and sold at Palazzo Barovier during Glass Week.
