The Swarovski Christmas tree was inaugurated in Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in Milan, to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the Austrian maison. And wish the city a bright future

For the seventh consecutive year, Swarovski has inaugurated the Christmas tree that will illuminate the historic Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in Milan until 6 January 2021. Created in collaboration with the Department of Culture and Entertainment of the Municipality of Milan, the official lighting of the tree was held privately in the presence of Michele Molon, Executive Vice President Global Sales Swarovski Crystal Business, and Massimo La Greca Managing Director Italy & Iberica Swarovski Crystal Business, in the frame of the Galleria's Octagon.

The tree holds a very special meaning for the Austrian maison, which this year celebrates its 125th anniversary. The Tree of Light is a love letter that the creative director, Giovanna Engelbert, addresses to the Milanese and beyond: a tribute to the profound meaning and tradition of the holidays and an invitation to imagine a brighter future.

In line with the Il Natale degli Alberi project, sponsored by the Municipality of Milan to give the city moments of joy and beauty during the holidays, Tree of Light by Swarovski is inspired by the idea of eternal light to convey a message of rebirth.

Decorated with over 10 thousand lights and ornaments, including more than 200 handmade crystal decorations inspired by celestial bodies, the tree is 12 meters high and is framed by the Celestial Vault, - the evocative installation that illuminates the crystal dome of the Gallery during the holidays. At the base, a golden alcove where visitors can take pictures immersed in its glow.

For Giovanna Engelbert, of Milanese origins, Tree of Light represents a return home: the tree, in fact, symbolizes the moment in which families gather, even if only spiritually, to celebrate the holidays, despite the challenges and difficult moments of the last year.
