Gruppo Boero, an official partner of the Italian Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai (which has been postponed to 2021 due to the pandemic), continues to develop materials to decorate exteriors and certain internal areas as well. The company supplies items already in its catalogue, but also conducts research to develop innovative and sustainable solutions.
Over 10,000 liters of products have already been shipped, in order to paint the various parts of the Italian Pavilion, starting with the structure of overturned hulls above the structure, which forms the largest Italian flag ever made (2100 m2). For this symbolic part of the architecture, the company has prepared a green, a red and a white that precisely reproduce the official colors of the Italian flag.
Over the colors a transparent pearl coat will be applied, specially developed and selected by the designers to obtain an effect of movement of the flag. The hulls are interconnected by a complex roof that mediates between indoors and outdoors in terms of climate control, technical lighting and acoustics.
The 165 columns that support the structure of the pavilion have also been painted by Gruppo Boero: here the choice goes to Challenger Pro Matt, in a “white rope” satin finish, combined with the color of the ropes that will descend from the hulls, forming the external profile of the structure. The same color will be used for the inside of the roof.
For the inside of the pavilion, the company will decorate zones of specific interest, such as the VIP area, the auditorium, the education lab and the foyer, for which it is carrying out research on sustainable coatings, including the experimental use of raw materials and pigments derived from natural sources and waste from food processing.
