Bend-e
The most recent creation in the Bolzan world is Bend-e, a bed with contemporary shapes, designed by Zanellato/Bortotto, where the headboard and footboard form a single body, upholstered and covered in fabric, and the legs are in painted metal. It is characterized by a strong artisanal matrix. In fact, this creation, which revisits Bend, a classic in the Treviso based company’s catalog, was designed by recovering techniques and fabrics from the last century. Each element of the bed derives from the contribution of a manufacture chosen specifically for its commitment to sustainable practices and processes. For Bend-e, the painted metal frame of the original version is transformed into an artisanal process that harkens back to the oldest manual techniques of forging, the same ones that the industrial approach has since pushed aside over the past century. The revival of tradition also prompted a preference for natural pigmented waxes applied manually to iron among the possible colors. The desire to work on a short supply chain led the two designers to involve Torri Lana in making the cover fabric. A manufacturer of natural fabrics, Torri Lana has been a point of reference for architects and designers since the middle of the last century. From the archive of the company based in the Bergamo area, the yarn Filled, a composition of cotton and wool designed in the 1980s by Jole Gandolini, was chosen for Bend-e and revisited in a contemporary key by updating five different colors.
