Carpet Collection by Massimiliano Locatelli Editions

The new carpets collection by Massimiliano Locatelli Editions is made in Nepal, crafted with natural materials (100% wool of various types, highly resistant and receptive to dyeing). They are woven with wool of different thicknesses, providing irregularities not typical of a carpet but rather resembling a well-worn object. For the design, Locatelli drew inspiration from the tantric art of the 17th century, which uses watercolors to overlay colors and ‘stain’ the image with smudges. To create these stains, the carpet is partially waxed, immersed in water, and then redyed so that the uncovered part gets ‘dirty’, resulting in faded effects and stains for a lived-in appearance.
