Electa has releasedCarlo Colombo Architect, the first monograph on the Italian designer. Carlo Colombo (Carimate 1967), an international architect and designer, teaches, practices and promotes Italian design in the world. Sector entrepreneurs have been his first and most loyal enthusiasts, leading to collaboration with many important companies: from Fratelli Guzzini toArtemide, Zanotta toFranke, Antoniolupi toPoliformand many others. The book, with texts by Francesca Filippi, features prefaces by Gilda Bojardi and Giulio Cappelliniand covers Colombo’s most important projects in the sectors of design, interiors and architecture. Each section starts with an introduction and then shows the projects in individual profiles: the Blueberry chair by BYografia (2010), the Air table by Poliform (2009), the collections for Antoniolupi, the Ball chair by Arflex(2008), the six models of sneakers for the Levi’s2012 collection are just a few examples to illustrate the wide range of activities of Carlo Colombo. In his design projects he operates through progressive reduction, eliminating the superfluous and favoring natural materials, though in combination with artificial substances, bringing out the best of their aesthetic and tactile potential. The interiors and works of architecture also stand out for pure lines and formal abstraction, always firmly connected with the productive realities of materials.
